Prerequisite: None
This session will include a moderated Q&A featuring questions from the live audience.
Many organizations express a need for real-time data and real-time analytics without fully understanding the implications or considering alternative approaches. Organizations often confuse the process of doing work with the process of deciding how to do work—essentially the difference between operational tasks and analytics. Information is only as useful as your ability to act on it, and sometimes, accelerating the flow of information makes a situation worse rather than better.
The first lesson in real-time analytics and data projects is to clearly understand the business needs that are driving the effort. Investing in complex data infrastructure without a clear use case can be a large and costly mistake.
In this session, Mark Madsen will explore real-time data integration solutions in several domains ranging from manufacturing to online A/B testing to real-time recommendation models. Although the use cases may vary, the underlying concepts apply equally to most situations. Madsen will explore the lessons learned in these domains, and show how they apply to any real-time analytics effort. Madsen will also provide concepts you can apply and questions you can ask to avoid missteps and ensure successful projects.
